Bangladesh Announce T20 squad for Micromax Asia Cup T20 2016

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 15-member squad for the Asia Cup T20 2016, which will start from February 24.

Left-handed opening batsman Tamim Iqbal will miss the Asia Cup T20 2016, after the left-hander decided to opt out of the tournament because his wife is expected to give birth.

Imrul Kayes has been named as Iqbal's replacement for the Asia Cup T20 2016.

"We recalled Imrul because he is the best available option for us in the absence of Tamim," Habibul Bashar was quoted as saying by cricbuzz on Sunday.

Bangladesh are hosting this tournament for the fifth time, since its inception. This upcoming edition of the Asia Cup has been turned into a T20, because of the ICC World T20 2016, which will be held in India from March 8.

Being the hosts of the tournament, Bangladesh will fancy their chances against the three powerhouses of world cricket -- India, Pakistan and Sri Lank -- in this tournament. If they manage to outclass the big three, it will give them a major boost ahead of the ICC World T20 2016.

Afghanistan, UAE, Hong Kong and Oman will play the qualifying round from February 19-22 at the Fatullah Stadium. The winner of this qualifying round will enter the main stage of the tournament where they will face India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

All the matches of the Asia Cup T20 2016 wil be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The final of the tournament will be played on March 6, which is just two days before the start of the ICC World T20 2016.

Bangladesh Asia Cup 2016 T20 Squad: Mashrafe Mortaza (C), Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Mohammad Mithun, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah Riyad, Nasir Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Arafat Sunny, Mustafizur Rahman, Al-Amin Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Abu Hider.

Micromax bags title Sponsorship Rights for Asia Cup T20 2016

Mobile phone manufacturers Micromax has bagged the title sponsorship rights for the Asia Cup Twenty20 Tournament 2016 in Bangladesh.

New Delhi: Mobile phone manufacturers Micromax has bagged the title sponsorship rights for the Asia Cup Twenty20 Tournament 2016, which will be held in Bangladesh from February 24 to March 6. The tournament is a -cursor to the World T20, which will be held in March, in India. Commenting on the Micromax becoming title sponsor of the event Asian Cricket Council President Thilanga Sumathipala said, “ACC is delighted to have Micromax as Title Sponsor of the event and we look forward to working together to deliver a successful event.

The Indian cricket team will take on their arch rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2016 tournament, whereas the first match of the main round of the tournament will be between Bangladesh and India. It must be remembered that this is the very first time that the Asia Cup tournament — usually a 50-over competition — will be played in Twenty20 format. The change is obviously due to the ICC World T20 2016 tournament, which will be hosted for India for the very first time. Bangladesh will be hosting this tournament once again, and there will be 11 matches in the main tournament that will be held from February 24 to March 6, 2016.

As many as four teams — Afghanistan, UAE, Oman and Hong Kong — will be taking part in the qualifying round of the Asia Cup 2016. But only one of them will advance to the main round, which begins on February 24. Sri Lanka are the defending champions of the Asia Cup tournament as they had won the competition last in 2014.

T20 Cricket in Pakistan

British endowed sub-continent with new facades, and more than six decades later Cricket has proved to be enduring and eminent trait of this region today. Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, all were once part of British India and "The Gentleman's Game" found an unprecedented fan following and power source from these countries.

From Pakistan's viewpoint, Cricket is the most famous, well supported and followed game for people from all age and genders regardless of location, creed and language. Probably due to this aficionado level, cricket here has an excellent history, well-established administration structure and world-class support facilities.

Initially, Cricket was just an elite's sport. Landlords would gather to play an exhibition match as a hobby. It was natural that players belonging to such class would represent Pakistan in its debut Test match against India in 1952. For several ensuing decades, Cricket remained a rich man's sport until players belonging to lower class families begin to participate at international level. In addition to, a new One-Day cricket format proved to be very successful internationally. Staging of ODI (One-Day International) World Cup in 1988 in sub-continent sparked an interest in this game that continues today. Subsequent years saw an increase in public fascination as Pakistan performed exceptionally in all aspects of the game.

The fame, money and glamour attracted youngsters who in essence became a nursery of stars for the country. It is not uncommon for cricket players to be treated like royalty. Public, politicians, media etc all bestow there affection and attention at them. A national player can earn well over millions with endorsements only!

It is a fact that such discretion could not have come without Pakistan cricket team's superlative performance. Since there historical win against England in 1954, Team Pakistan has well evolved into a competitive outfit.

o Champions in 1992 ODI World Cup

o Champions in 2009 Twenty20 World Cup

o Semi-Finalists in 2009 Champions Trophy

o Champions in 2000 Asia Cup

o Champions in ALL Australasia Cups

o Champions in 1998 Asian Test Championship

Furthermore, Players themselves hold several world records as well.

o Hanif Muhammad has the honour of being the first Asian cricketer to score a triple century in 1958.

o Saeed Anwar has the highest individual ODI score of 194 runs (Against India in 1997).

o Sarfaraz Nawaz invented Reverse Swing.

o Shoaib Akhtar holds the distinction of being the fastest bowler in history (100.2mph/161.2kph in 2004).

Above all are concrete proofs of Pakistan's achievements.

Pakistan's Women cricket team is also active on the international scene since 1997.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) oversees the cricket matches and administration through out the country. It is a member of ICC.

Cricket in Pakistan is not merely a game. It is means of entertainment, earnings, diplomacy, and supremacy on archrivals and above all a source of pride and honour for the country.

Micromax Asia Cup - India Vs Pakistan Preview

India and Pakistan meet for the first time after the ICC Champions Trophy in September '09, when Pakistan rode on Shoaib Malik's ton to win.

In this match, the pressure is on Pakistan as they are coming off a loss to Sri Lanka, while India have a win against Bangladesh to bolster their spirits. India can qualify for the final with a win against Pakistan.

Taking stock from the previous match, our seam bowlers (can't call them fast bowlers) hold no threat to any opposition, it seems. And there are no reserves to replace them, either.

Gambhir was more consistent when he had to fight for his place. Given the good form he has been in, in recent times, his conversion rate has been less than commensurate. Also, he has had a penchant for running himself out when there was no danger of a bowler dismissing him. That said, he came good against Bangladesh.

Maybe it's the T20 effect, but we haven't seen a long partnership in limited overs cricket between Sehwag and Gambhir for some time, now.

Though Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli didn't get too many runs, they are both in reasonable nick, and with Dhoni and Raina to follow, India's batting has great depth. But expect the Pakistan fast bowlers (they are fast) to aim for Raina's ribs, rather than the stumps.

India's continued reliance on Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra and the disastrous showing in Zimbabwe speak more eloquently about the state of the game in India than anything else.

Pakistan's story is literally the opposite. They have been producing wicket taking bowlers with regularity, but don't have a settled opening pair. In fact, there has been so much tinkering in their batting line given the sacking of seniors and the failures of juniors, names such as Imran Farhat, Shazaib Hasan and Umar Amin are entirely unknown, outside of Pakistan. Yet, these are the top order. Pakistan's batting is completely unpredictable and they can stage amazing recoveries and amazing collapses with equal aplomb. Coming to the bowling, Akhtar made a great comeback against SL. Asif is always a threat, and Aamer is arguably the best young fast bowler discovered in recent times. Hopefully, he won't fade away like Ishant Sharma. The fact that Saeed Ajmal, a world class spinner doesn't find a place points to the usefulness of the likes of Afridi and Malik (if he isn't called for chucking), in the bowling line up.

So how will this fascinating match between a good batting team against a good bowling side end? My prediction: the team that bats first will win.

Pakistan T20 Team to Beat in Asia Cup

The cross-country camaraderie of the IPL will all be forgotten when traditional rivalries are resumed in this tournament. India and Pakistan are fierce opponents and, along with Sri Lanka, will provide the winner. Bangladesh, UAE and Hong Kong are there to make up the numbers, although the Tigers will progress to the semi finals with Sri Lanka and will hope to claim a major scalp at some point. India are the most successful team in Asia Cup history, winning four of the eight tournaments to be held and will start as favourites to win again.

They are highest ranked team and proved in the IPL that they have a good pool of one day players. Captain MS Dhoni leads a talented set of players that include Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag and Gautham Gambhir and they have the firepower with bat and ball to succeed. Holders Sri Lanka have been strong in 50 over cricket for some time, beating India on the way to finishing runners up in last year's world cup final. They have an experienced line-up featuring Muttiah Muralitharan, Mahela Jayawardene, Chaminda Vaas and Kumar Sangakkara. However, they have had a poor run of results since the world cup, failing to win a significant series, losing against Pakistan, England, India, Australia and West Indies. Pakistan go into the tournament high in confidence after winning the Kitply cup.

Their victory over India in the final of that mini-series bodes well for their group clash in the Asia cup, an important match as the winner avoids a likely semi final with Sri Lanka. Victory in this tournament would be a major boost for Pakistan cricket, which has had to survive the death of its coach during a terrible world cup campaign and a series of controversies surrounding star bowlers Mohammad Asif and Shoaib Akhtar. Pakistan's team underachieves and it is time the gifted squad performed as a unit as they did in winning the 2000 tournament. Misbah-Ul-Haq and Sohail Tanvir have bright futures in cricket ahead of them. They typify the mercurial talents of the team and can be the respective batting and bowling stars of the tournament. Another reason for backing Pakistan in the tournament betting is their home advantage. Every time one of the big three hosts the tournament (Sri Lanka 1986, India 1990, Sri Lanka 1997 and Sri Lanka 2004) they have also finished as winners.
